∴Gru, a reformed villain, is now a dedicated father to his three adopted daughters. He gets recruited by the Anti-Villain League to catch an unknown criminal who stole a dangerous serum. Along with his loyal Minions and Agent Lucy Wilde, Gru discovers that the thief is El Macho, thought to be dead. They unravel a sinister plot involving Gru’s love interest, Lucy's transformation into a purple minion under El Macho's control. Together they rescue her and capture El Macho. Gru realizes his love for Lucy and they continue fighting crime while raising their family with the Minions' comedic antics.
